AND WHAT'S HAPPENING TONIGHT I THINK IS REALLY SIGNIFICANT AND IMPORTANT. AND I DIDN'T WANT IT JUST TO BE YOU WHO WELCOMES OUR NEW SUPERINTENDENT, BECAUSE I THOUGHT IT WAS IMPORTANT THAT NOT JUST SHE BROUGHT HER PEOPLE, BUT THAT HER NEW PEOPLE WERE REPRESENTED AS WELL.
I WANT TO START BY THANKING THE BOARD FOR GOING THROUGH THE ARDUOUS PROCESS OF FINDING US A SUPERINTENDENT. THIS HAS BEEN A VERY, VERY LONG AND VERY, VERY PRECARIOUS ROAD THAT YOU'VE TRAVELED, AND WE'VE HAD A COUPLE OF MISSTEPS, BUT I DON'T REALLY THINK THEY WERE MISSTEPS. I THINK THEY LED US TO THE RIGHT PERSON AT THE RIGHT TIME. SO RATHER THAN SEEING THAT, I THINK WE FAILED FORWARD TO GET TO WHERE WE ARE TODAY. AND THAT'S BEEN REALLY THE WORK OF ALL FIVE OF YOU.
BEING HERE IS GETTING THE RIGHT LEADERSHIP AT THE HELM OF OUR DISTRICT, BECAUSE WHAT DOCTOR SIMON NEEDS TO KNOW IS YOU HAVE AN AMAZING STAFF FROM THE SECOND IN COMMAND, ALL THE WAY DOWN TO THE FLOOR, TO THE PEOPLE WHO WATCH THE KIDS ON THE PLAYGROUND THERE.
THERE IS NO DISTRICT LIKE THIS. AND WE'RE GRATEFUL TO BE GIVING YOU ASYLUM FROM LONG BEACH.
BUT WHAT I WANTED TO ADDRESS IS THAT I VALUE HER EDUCATION.
I VALUE WHAT SHE'S BRINGING IN LEADERSHIP, IN HER EXPERIENCE AND WHAT I WANT TO SAY AS A MEMBER OF THIS COMMUNITY IS THAT I WANT YOU TO PAY HER WHAT SHE'S WORTH, AND I WANT YOU TO BE WORTH WHAT THEY PAY YOU.
THE SIX OF YOU ARE GOING TO TAKE US WHERE WE NEED TO GO.
AND IF ALL SIX OF YOU AREN'T ON BOARD, WE'RE NOT GOING ANYWHERE.
THIS DISTRICT FOR DECADES HAS OPERATED IN AN ECONOMY OF FEAR AND SCARCITY, AND FEAR AND SCARCITY ROBS US OF ALL CREATIVITY, AND WE NEVER MOVE FORWARD. WE FAIL NOMINALLY, BUT WE KEEP FAILING.
AND OUR CHILDREN DESERVE THAT. WE ARE IN A BRIDGE DISTRICT.
AND I HOPE THAT MOVING FORWARD THAT YOU ALSO CULTIVATE LEADERSHIP.

I HOPE THAT AS WE MOVE FORWARD, WHAT WE DO IS WE HELP OUR KIDS UNDERSTAND WHO THEY ARE, WHY THEY'RE HERE, AND WHAT THEIR PURPOSE IS, NOT WHAT THEY THINK THEY WANT OR WHAT PEOPLE ARE TELLING THEM THEY'RE SUPPOSED TO BE, BUT WHO THEY REALLY ARE. THE WORK OF OUR PEOPLE IN THIS DISTRICT NEEDS TO BE HELPING THESE KIDS FIGURE OUT WHY THEY CAME TO EARTH, AND WHAT THEY'RE SUPPOSED TO DO WHILE THEY'RE HERE. SO I'M GOING TO RUN OUT OF TIME, SO I HOPE YOU'LL GIVE ME A MEASURE OF GRACE. PLEASE GO AHEAD.

AND SO WHAT I'M HOPING THAT YOU DO IS THAT YOU ADDRESS THE ELEPHANT IN THE ROOM WITH COMPASSION AND INTEGRITY, BUT THAT YOU SIT IN A SPACE AS A SERVANT LEADER, AND YOU HELP PEOPLE SIT IN THE DISCOMFORT OF ANALYZING WHAT WE'VE DONE, WHAT WE'VE DONE WELL, AND WHAT WE'VE DONE WRONG AND HOW WE MOVE FORWARD. BECAUSE IF WE'RE NOT WILLING TO BE HONEST WITH OURSELVES, WE'RE NOT GOING ANYWHERE. AND SO IT'S REALLY IMPORTANT THAT YOU, AS OUR LEADER, STAND AT THE HELM WITH A PROFOUND AMOUNT OF INTEGRITY AND THE ABILITY TO COMMUNICATE IN WAYS THAT HELP PEOPLE UNDERSTAND WHAT IT IS THAT YOU MEAN THEM TO HERE. SO I WANT TO KIND OF SPEAK A BLESSING OVER YOU AS YOU COME HERE, THAT YOU WOULD HAVE PROTECTION WHEN YOU'RE IN HERE, THAT WHEN YOU MOVE AMONG THESE PEOPLE THAT YOUR PURPOSE, YOUR IDENTITY, THAT WHEN YOU MOVE AMONG HERE, THAT YOU WERE CREATED FOR THIS PURPOSE, THAT WHEN YOU COME HERE, EVERYTHING YOU DID TO GET TO THIS POINT IS REALLY ABOUT WHAT YOU'RE GOING TO DO WITH THE CHILDREN IN THIS DISTRICT. THAT'S I'VE BEEN HERE FOR 25 YEARS, AND I'VE BEEN PRAYING ON MY KNEES ALL THE WAY THROUGH.
AND FOR THE LAST TEN, WE'VE REALLY BEEN SEEKING A LEADER.
AND I BELIEVE THAT YOU ARE THE ANSWER TO MY PRAYERS.
AND SO I'M TRUSTING THAT AS YOU MOVE FORWARD, WE WILL HELP KEEP YOU BUOYANT, BECAUSE THERE ARE THINGS THAT HAVE TO BE FIXED AND PEOPLE ARE GOING TO BE RESISTANT TO CHANGE. BUT UNTIL THE PAIN OF CHANGE IS NOT GREATER THAN THE PAIN OF STAYING THE SAME, PEOPLE AREN'T GOING TO CHANGE. SO WE HAVE TO CHANGE.
AND WHAT I BELIEVE IS THAT WE SHOULD BE A NATIONALLY RECOGNIZED DISTRICT.
WE ARE LARGE ENOUGH TO DO GREAT THINGS, AND WE ARE SMALL ENOUGH FOR EVERYBODY TO KNOW EACH OTHER. WE ARE A FAMILY, SO WELCOME TO THE FAMILY. THE HARD PART IS YOU'RE COMING IN AS THE MOM, AND WE ALREADY PUT ALL THE FURNITURE IN PLACE AND WE'RE GOING TO BE COMFORTABLE WHEN YOU DECIDE, HEY, WE GOT TO MOVE THAT AND THAT'S GOT TO GO. SO UP FOR APPROVAL TONIGHT IS ITEM FOR THE APPROVAL OF SUPERINTENDENT EMPLOYMENT CONTRACT PURSUANT TO GOVERNMENT CODE 54953.I AM PROVIDING THE PUBLIC WITH AN ORAL SUMMARY OF THE SALARY AND FRINGE BENEFITS BEING CONSIDERED BY THE BOARD OF EDUCATION THIS EVENING AS PART OF THE EMPLOYMENT CONTRACT BETWEEN THE DISTRICT AND DOCTOR AARON SIMON. THE TERM OF THE AGREEMENT IS FROM JULY 14TH, 2025 TO JUNE 30TH, 2028. 260 DAY WORK YEAR. EXCLUSIVE OF WEEKENDS AND HOLIDAYS.
THE DISTRICT SHALL MAKE CALSTRS CONTRIBUTIONS AND PAYROLL DEDUCTIONS ORDINARILY REQUIRED FOR CERTIFICATED ADMINISTRATORS 24 DAYS OF PAID VACATION ANNUALLY, WITH MAXIMUM ACCRUAL OF 48 DAYS ACCRUED BUT UNUSED.
VACATION UP TO A MAXIMUM OF 48 DAYS SHALL BE PAID OUT UPON CONCLUSION OF EMPLOYMENT.
ANNUAL CONTRIBUTION TO A TAX SHELTERED ANNUITY.
