MAINTENANCE AND OPERATIONS STAFF, FOOD SERVICE WORKERS, TECHNOLOGY TECHNICIANS, SECURITY AND CUSTODIAL STAFF FROM ACROSS THE DISTRICT ALL WORKED HARD TO ENSURE EACH CEREMONY REPRESENTED A SUCCESSFUL JOB OF PREPARING AND EDUCATING UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT STUDENTS TO THEIR FAMILIES AND TO THE COMMUNITIES. EVEN TODAY SECRETARIES, CLERKS AND ADMINISTERED OF STAFF ARE WORKING TO CLOSE OUT THE DOCUMENTATION OF THE PAST YEAR AND PREPARE TO BE READY FOR THE BEGINNING OF THE NEXT SCHOOL YEAR AND I WANT TO ACKNOWLEDGE CONTINUE WORK OF ALL TWELVE-MONTH EMPLOYEES , I WANT TO KNOWLEDGE THE CONTINUING ALL TWELVE-MONTH EMPLOYEES ARE DOING. I AM PROUD TO SHARE APPROXIMATELY 2000 STUDENTS ARE PARTICIPATING ACROSS A WIDE RANGE OF PROGRAMS IN OUR SCHOOLS AND ACROSS THE DISTRICT FROM PRESCHOOL THROUGH HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS ARE ENGAGED IN TARGETED ACADEMIC SUPPORT, ENRICHMENT OPPORTUNITY AND EXTENDED LEARNING TIME. EXTENDED SCHOOL YEAR PROGRAM IS SERVING OVER 230 STUDENTS SUPPORTED BY 24 TEACHERS AND 60 PARAPROFESSIONALS. ELEMENTARY SUMMER ACADEMIES ARE HELPING 500 STUDENT STRENGTH AND FOUNDATIONAL SKILLS IN READING AND MATH AT THE MIDDLE SCHOOL LEVEL WE HAVE LAUNCHED NEW SUMMER BRIDGE COURSES AS WELL AS A HIGH SCHOOL 11 PROGRAM TO HELP STUDENTS TRANSITION SUCCESSFULLY HIGH SCHOOL. OUR PARTNERSHIP WITH THINK TOGETHER IS PROVIDING NEARLY 900 ELEMENTARY AND MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS WITH FULL DAY ENRICHMENT INCLUDING S.T.E.M., ROBOTICS AND FIELD TRIPS, AT THE HIGH SCHOOL LEVEL WE HAVE ABOUT 900 STUDENTS WORKING ON CREDIT RECOVERY REQUIREMENTS AND DUAL ENROLLMENT , THIS ROBUST SUMMER PROGRAM WOULD NOT BE POSSIBLE WITHOUT THE DEDICATION OF TEACHERS, SUPPORT STAFF AND SITE AND DISTRICT LEADERS AND I SINCERELY WANT TO THANK ALL OF THEM FOR THEIR INCREDIBLE EFFORT AND COMMITMENT TO OUR STUDENTS. THE COMMITTEE WILL NOT BE MEETING AGAIN AND WE REVIEWED 26 GOALS WITH 21 COMPLETED FIVE ARE , FIVE RECOMMENDATIONS ARE CONTINUOUS THERE IS NO WAY OF GOING AROUND THE SCHOOL IT IS CONTINUOUS AND ONGOING. FOR THE GOALS THAT WERE ESTABLISHED IN THE BEGINNING. BUT THIS HAS BEEN LARGE COLLABORATION WITH THE DISTRICT, THE SCHOOLS AND WITH OUR CABINET LEADERS. AND , BEFORE I FORGET, ONE OF THE BIGGEST ITEMS OR TWO OF THE BIGGEST ITEMS THAT HAVE NOT ONLY COME OUT FOR THE GOALS OF THAT COMMITTEE. ONE IS GOING TOGETHER FAMILIES, EDUCATORS AND COMMUNITIES WHICH IS SET FOR OCTOBER 11. OF THIS YEAR, IT IS OPEN TO ALL COMMUNITY MEMBERS, EVEN PARENTS. AND EDUCATORS, EVEN IF THEY'RE NOT IN OUR DISTRICT IT IS OPENING TO ANYONE WHO WANTS TO COME AS LONG AS THEY SIGN UP. THEY WILL BE PARTICIPATING IN WORKSHOPS ALL DAY, KEY SPOKESPEOPLE, LUNCH WILL BE PROVIDED. ONE OF THE THINGS IS, WITH THE REGISTRATION, CARE WILL ALSO BE PROVIDED FOR PARENTS THAT NEED CARE FOR THEIR CHILDREN AND THERE WILL BE GIVEAWAYS.

AND BASICALLY IT IS A WORKSHOP ALMOST EVERY MONTH OR EVERY OTHER MONTH THAT PARENTS CAN SIGN UP FOR, THEY ARE ONE HOUR AND ALL INFORMATION WILL BE PUT ON SOCIAL MEDIA AND OUR WEBSITES AND THINGS LIKE THAT FOR PARENTS TO REGISTER. SO WE HOPE THAT PEOPLE WILL. AGAIN THEY ARE ONE HOUR SESSIONS AND IT IS ANOTHER RESOURCE FOR WHOEVER WOULD LIKE TO PARTICIPATE. SO, FOR THE WRAP UP, THAT WAS REALLY REALLY GOOD MEETING. WE LOOKED AT ATTENDANCE DATA, DISCIPLINE DATA, THE HEALTHY KIDS SURVEY, WE LOOK AT THE FEEDBACK, THE PANORAMA SURVEY AND THE TEACHER SCL SURVEY. WE HAD THREE GROUPS WE DIVIDED UP AND WE WENT THROUGH THE DATA AND THERE WAS A LOT OF , I DON'T KNOW IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO ADD TO IT, EVERYONE THERE WAS EXCITED ABOUT THE DATA. IS WHEN NOT SEEN, THINGS WE FELT WE COULD BUILD ON TO IMPROVE WITH CULTURE AND CLIMATE AND IN GENERAL. ONE THING WAS IN ELEMENTARY THERE IS A HIGH SENSE OF BELONGING BUT WITH SECONDARY SCHOOLS IT DROPPED A LOT LIKE A LOT. THOSE ARE THINGS WE LOOKED AT, WE LOOKED AT COMMUNICATION ON PLATFORMS AND HOW TO IMPROVE. GETTING PARENT FEEDBACK SO IT WAS A CORE GROUP OF PEOPLE.

SO, I HAVE -- WHAT THEY DID, THEY SPOKE ON THE CHALLENGES AND EARLIER BARRIERS TO IMMIGRANT STUDENTS IN ACCESSING EDUCATION AND HOW IN 1994, CALIFORNIA VOTERS ADOPTED PROPOSITION 187 SO THAT UNDOCUMENTED IMMIGRANTS' CHILDREN CANNOT BE DENIED ACCESS TO PUBLIC EDUCATION.

THE INDICATORS ARE MEANT TO MEASURE THE PERFORMANCE OF THE DISTRICTS WITH ADDRESSING THE EIGHT STATE PRIORITIES THAT ARE LISTED HERE ON THIS SLIDE. SOME OF THE INDICATORS ARE COLLECTED BY THE STATE AND OTHER INDICATORS ARE COLLECTED LOCALLY AT THE DISTRICT LEVEL. THESE INDICATORS MEASURE PERFORMANCE IN ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT, ENGAGEMENT, AND SCHOOL CONDITIONS AND CLIMATE.
SO, TONIGHT I'M SHARING WITH YOU THE LOCAL INDICATORS. FOR THE AREAS OF SCHOOL CONDITIONS, 95% OF OUR TEACHERS ARE FULLY CREDENTIALED, WHICH IS AN INCREASE FROM LAST YEAR'S PERCENT OF 92. THE BASIC CONDITIONS OF SCHOOL SITES IS MEASURED THROUGH THE PERFORMANCE OF THE F.I.T.
INSPECTION TOOL, WHICH IS A TOOL USED TO RATE SCHOOL CONDITIONS SUCH AS ROOFS, PLAYGROUNDS, RESTROOMS, HAZARDS. THE CONDITIONS HAVE MAINTAINED SINCE LAST YEAR. IN THE AREA OF ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE, LOCALLY WE MEASURED AN INCREASE IN THE PERCENT OF SECOND GRADE STUDENTS MEETING FOUNDATIONAL READING SKILLS, WHICH WAS AN INCREASE FROM LAST YEAR.
AND PERCEPTION OF IMPLEMENTATION OF STATE STANDARDS.
THERE'S A SLIGHT INCREASE TO THIS PERCENTAGE, WHICH SUGGESTS THAT THE INCREASE IN PROFESSIONAL LEARNING AND VERTICAL ALIGNMENT TIME TEACHERS HAVE RECEIVED HAS RESULTED IN IMPROVED ALIGNMENT AND INSTRUCTION TO THE STANDARDS.
ALTHOUGH ALL COURSES ARE AVAILABLE AND STUDENTS HAVE ACCESS TO COURSES, WHEN REVIEWING ENROLLMENT INFORMATION WE NOTICE THAT ALL STUDENT GROUPS ARE ACCESSING A VARIETY OF COURSES. HOWEVER, ENGLISH LEARNER STUDENT GROUPS ACCESS ADVANCED ELA COURSES LESS DUE TO THEIR CURRENT LEVEL OF DEVELOPMENT OF ENGLISH LANGUAGE. THE LCAT SURVEY DATA SHOWS THAT A HIGH PERCENTAGE OF PARENTS FEEL THAT SCHOOL ENCOURAGES THEM TO ACTIVELY PARTNER, THAT THEY PLAN PARENT ENGAGEMENT ACTIVITIES FROM THE SCHOOL SITE, AND THAT THEY SEEK INPUT FROM PARENTS TO MAKE IMPORTANT DECISIONS. HOWEVER, THERE WAS A DECLINE IN ENGLISH LEARNER PARENTS FEELING LIKE THEY KNOW HOW TO PARTICIPATE IN THE ENGLISH LEARNER ADVISORY COMMITTEES AT OUR SCHOOL SITES. THIS DATA SHOWS THAT PARENTS FEEL WELCOME AT SCHOOL AND STAFF FEEL A RESPONSIBILITY TO IMPROVE SCHOOL. HOWEVER, AS MENTIONED EARLIER, A LITTLE OVER 50% OF STUDENTS FEEL CONNECTED TO SCHOOL.
PARENTS AND TEACHERS AGREE THAT SCHOOL IS A SAFE PLACE FOR STUDENTS. HOWEVER, THE PERCEPTION OF STUDENTS FEELING SAFE AT SCHOOL IS BELOW 50% AT THE SECONDARY LEVEL AND HAS SLIGHTLY INCREASED AT THE ELEMENTARY LEVEL. THE INFORMATION SHARED TONIGHT IS INFORMATION THAT WAS SHARED DURING DEVELOPMENT OF THE LCAT DURING PEER REVIEW.
