OUR BOARD MEETINGS ARE ATTENDED BY NOT JUST OUR COUNCIL OFFICERS AS WELL AS THE UNIT PRESIDENTS, ALSO WITH THE SUPERINTENDENT AND RECENTLY THE DEPUTY SUPERINTENDENT AS WELL. THEY PROVIDE US UPDATES AS WELL AS TAKING OUR RANDOM QUESTIONS AND CONCERNS THAT SOME OF OUR MEMBERS MIGHT HAVE. APPRECIATE THAT. THIS WEEK, DR. SMITH ARRANGED A PRESENTATION FOR OUR PTA BY FACTOR. I REALIZE THAT SHE HAD THE INVOLVED PARENTS IN THE ROOM. IT'S MY HOPE THAT THE UNIT PRESIDENTS SHARE THIS INFORMATION WITH THEIR BOARD AS WELL AS THEIR PTA [00:30:01] MEMBERS AND FAMILIES AT THE SCHOOL SITE. I THINK THIS PROGRAM WILL BE A GOOD OPPORTUNITY FOR PARENTS TO LEARN MORE ABOUT THEIR CHILD'S EDUCATION AND BECOME A BETTER ADVOCATE FOR THEIR STUDENTS. MANY OF OUR OFFICERS ARE PART OF OUR COMMITTEES AND/OR TASK FORCES. WE GOT AN UPDATE ON SOME PROP 28 FUNDS INFORMATION. WE TOUCHED EQUITABLE LITERACY IN ELA AND MATH SCORES. CALIFORNIA STATE PTA AND NATIONAL PTA SEND OUT WHAT WE CALL THEIR POSITION STATEMENT AND GUIDANCE REGARDING THE RIGHTS AND SERVICES FOR UNDOCUMENTED CHILDREN. I KNOW THERE'S SOME FEAR AND ANXIETY ABOUT THE FUTURE OF OUR CHILDREN AND FAMILIES. OUR PTAS SEND OUT THE INFORMATION TO THE THOUSANDS OF MEMBERS IN CALIFORNIA. WE ARE ING OUR UNITS TO SHARE THIS INFORMATION WITH MEMBERS AS WELL. IT'S AVAILABLE IN ENGLISH AND SPANISH. THERE'S A LOT. IT'S IMPORTANT THAT THEY KNOW THEIR RIGHTS. SCHOOLS MUST PROVIDE FREE PUBLIC EDUCATION TO ALL STUDENTS REGARDLESS OF THEIR IMMIGRATION STATUS AND REGARDLESS OF THE CITIZENSHIP STATUS OF THE PARENTS OR GUARDIANS. I HAVE A LOT OF INFORMATION AND STATEMENTS. IT'S IMPORTANT THEY KNOW THEIR WANT TO SHARE THAT SCHOOLS ARE MEANT TO BE SAFE SPACES WHERE CHILDREN CAN LEARN AND GROW WITHOUT FEAR. SCHOOLS MUST BE SAFE PLACES FOR FAMILIES TO SUPPORT THEIR CHILDREN'S EDUCATION. I WILL LEAVE IT AT THAT. A QUICK UPDATE ON OUR PTA MEMBERSHIP AND A CORRECTION. WE HAVE A TOTAL OF 2,300 MEMBERS, WHICH IS 100 AWAY FROM LAST YEAR'S ENDING NUMBER. WE HOPE TO SURPASS THAT. OUR GOAL IS 3,000. LAST MONTH, I LISTED THE SCHOOLS THAT HAVE 100% OF THEIR TEACHERS THAT JOINED THE PTA. THAT LIST SHOULD HAVE INCLUDED ARE A MONA ELEMENTARY PTA. SEVEN OUT OF THE 12 PTAS HAVE REACHED 100% TEACHERS. THE OTHERS WERE CRAIG WILLIAMS, TJ WASHINGTON AND BAXTER. COUNCIL UPDATE, WE HAVE OUR REFLECTIONS, WHICH IS OUR ART PROGRAM. AWARDS NIGHT IS TUESDAY, MARCH 4TH. RIGHT HERE IN THE BOARDROOM.
