WE HAVE 81 PACIFIC ISLANDER STUDENTS IN OUR DISTRICT, AND IN THE SEVENTH THROUGH EIGHTH DISCIPLINE, THERE IS 41 , SO THAT'S 50%. THAT IS THE LARGEST DISPARITY THAT WE HAVE, AND IT IS -- EVEN AND FOUR THROUGH SIX, IT'S 21, SO THAT'S 25%, AND THAT IS 25% AND 50% OF ALL THE STUDENTS ,

PROGRAMS WE USE TO SUPPORT STUDENTS INCLUDE RESTORATIVE PRACTICE TO HELP STRENGTHEN RELATIONSHIPS, ZONES OF REGULATION, A CURRICULUM THAT TEACHES STUDENTS HOW TO REGULATE THEIR EMOTIONS AND SECOND STEP AND SCHOOL CONNECT, WHICH ARE BOTH SOCIAL EMOTIONAL LEARNING CURRICULUM USED BY THE TEACHERS. IN ADDITION, WE USE PANORAMA TO SURVEY OUR STUDENTS AND GATHER THEIR INPUT IN ORDER TO BUILD A POSITIVE SCHOOL CLIMATE. PBI S IS NOT A PROGRAM BUT IT IS A STRUCTURE WHERE ALL STUDENTS RECEIVE TIER ONE SUPPORT. SOME STUDENTS RECEIVE TIER TWO SUPPORT STUDENE SUPPORT IN ADDITION TO TIERS ONE AND TWO. ALL OF THESE PROGRAMS AND STRUCTURES WORK

OUR HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETIC PROGRAMS PLAY A CRUCIAL ROLE IN THE OVERALL WELL-BEING AND DEVELOPMENT OF OUR STUDENTS. THEY NOT ONLY FOSTER PHYSICAL HEALTH BUT ALSO INSTILL VALUABLE LIFE SKILLS SUCH AS TEAMWORK, DISCIPLINE AND RESILIENCE. HOWEVER, RECENT OBSERVATIONS AND FEEDBACK FROM STUDENTS AND PARENTS INDICATE THERE MAY BE A FEW AREAS OF CONCERN THAT MERIT THE ATTENTION OF THE SCHOOL BOARD .

IN ONE CASE, THE ATHLETIC DIRECTOR AT MAYFAIR. IT IS THE ATHLETIC DIRECTOR'S RESPONSIBILITY TO SUBMIT APPLICATIONS FOR TEAMS TO PARTICIPATE IN CIF CHAMPIONSHIPS. DUE TO AN UNFORTUNATE OVERSIGHT WITH THIS INDIVIDUAL, THE GIRLS WRESTLING TEAM WAS NOT ABLE TO PARTICIPATE EVEN THOUGH THEY DEMONSTRATED EQUAL DEDICATION AND EFFORT AS THEIR COUNTERPARTS, EARNING THEM THE TITLE OF LEAGUE CHAMPIONS. TO ADDRESS THIS, I'M ASKING A THOROUGH INVESTIGATION BE CARRIED OUT TO UNDERSTAND WHY THE APPLICATION WAS NOT SUBMITTED CORRECTLY. JOHNSON HAS BEGUN TO ESTABLISH POSITIVE RELATIONSHIPS WITH STUDENTS, AND HIS PRESENCE IN THE CLASSROOM AND ON CAMPUS WILL HELP TO ENSURE THAT ALL STUDENTS ARE PROVIDED WITH SAFE, COLLABORATIVE CONDITIONS FOR LEARNING. LAST SATURDAY, TWO SOMERSET STUDENTS COMPETED IN THE SKILLS USA CONTEST HELD AT SOMERSET. SOMERSET'S TEACHERS A MODERATE AND GUZMAN PREPARED STUDENTS TO COMPETE, AND BOTH ARE OUTSTANDING. RESULTS ARE STILL PENDING. ONE SHOWED HIS SKILL SET BY CONSTRUCTING A WOOD CABINET AT SOMERSET WOODSHOP AND THE OTHER DEMONSTRATED HIS KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING IN THE AREA OF TELECOMMUNICATIONS.

TODAY I ATTENDED A STRATEGIC PLANNING MEETING AT MY SCHOOL DISTRICT. IT WAS A REALLY COOL EXPERIENCE. WE HAD SIX TABLES OR FIVE DIFFERENT PEOPLE . WE HAD ADMINISTRATORS, SUPERINTENDENTS, EVERYONE THERE AND IT WAS LED BY A COMPANY AND IT WAS AMAZING AND IT JUST REMINDED ME THAT WHEN YOU GET SO MANY GREAT PEOPLE IN A ROOM COLLABORATING, JUST THE RESULTS YOU GET , IT WAS JUST FABULOUS. WE LOOKED AT OUR VISION AND MISSION STATEMENT. I HAVE ANOTHER ONE TOMORROW. WE ARE GOING TO ALIGN THAT STRATEGIC PLAN WITH OUR EL CAP AND IT JUST IS REALLY AWESOME TO SEE, AND I LIKED BEING A PART OF IT AND I GUESS MY EMPHASIS ON THAT IS JUST THE COLLABORATION PIECE, I THINK IS SO IMPORTANT, AND TALKING WITH OTHERS BECAUSE YOU PRODUCE GREAT RESULTS WHEN YOU GET LOTS OF IDEAS FROM DIFFERENT PEOPLE. LASTLY, I WOULD LIKE TO ON A FUTURE AGENDA, BUT ON THE REVISION OF BOARD POLICY 3350, TRAVEL EXPENSES AND LASTLY I JUST WANT TO SAY THANK YOU TO DR. RIOS. 25 YEARS IN OUR DISTRICT. THAT IS A TOUGH LOSS.

I THOUGHT SHE WAS A GREAT LEADER. I THOUGHT THE CLIMATE AND CULTURE AT HER SCHOOL WAS GREAT AND I WISH HER BETTER THINGS BUT IT IS SAD FOR ME TO LOSE PEOPLE WE'VE HAD IN OUR DISTRICT FOR SO LONG, SO I WANT TO SAY THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR EVERYTHING SHE HAS DONE IN HER 25 YEARS AND WISH HER GOOD LUCK IN HER NEXT ENDEAVORS. EDUCATION , AND IDENTIFIED A LOT WE DID IN REGARDS TO CREATING A GOVERNMENT BOARD HANDBOOK. I DEFINITELY WOULD REMIND FELLOW BOARD MEMBERS IN REGARD TO THE BOARD STUDY SESSION WITH OUR PRINCIPAL AND LOOKING AT THE DATA, ACROSS DIFFERENT SITES AND REALLY EXAMINING HOW WE AS A BOARD CAN LOOK AT A TEAM WITH OUR SITES AND CLOSING THE ACHIEVEMENT GAP AMONG MANY OF OUR GRADES, ACROSS GRADES, OUR SOCIOECONOMIC GROUP, STUDENT ABILITIES AS WELL AS DIFFERENT ETHNIC BACKGROUNDS. I ALSO ATTENDED A WEBINAR ON AI FOR K-12 AND HOW THEY ARE GOING TO ENGAGE STUDENTS IN THE CREATION OF IDEAS THROUGH AI AND SUPPORT TEACHERS ON HOW TO DO THEIR JOB BETTER, SO THAT WAS REALLY INTERESTING. I ALSO ATTENDED A WEBINAR ON CRISIS READY IN REGARD TO COMMUNICATION DURING AND AFTER A CRISIS THAT WAS PUT ON BY [INDISCERNIBLE]. CAN EVERYONE HEAR ME OKAY? I'M GETTING SOME FEEDBACK.

AND IT IS BASICALLY THE POEM , THE WE CLIMB AND I'M NOT GOING TO READ ALL OF IT BUT THERE WERE SOME KEY POINTS THAT REALLY RESONATED WITH ME AND THE POEM STARTS IT, SO WE LIFT OUR GAZE IS NOT TO WHAT STANDS BETWEEN US, BUT WHAT STANDS BEFORE US.

WE CLOSE THE DIVIDE BECAUSE WE KNOW TO PUT OUR FUTURE FIRST, WE MUST FIRST PUT OUR DIFFERENCES ASIDE. WE LAY DOWN OUR ARMS SO WE CAN REACH OUT OUR ARMS TO ONE ANOTHER. I FEEL FOR THE GIRLS WRESTLING TEAM, AND I KNOW HOW HARD THEY WORKED AND BEING A WRESTLER MYSELF, I KNOW HOW MUCH YOU PUT INTO THAT SPORT, SO I KNOW THINGS WE PUT IN PLACE SO THAT NEVER HAPPENS AGAIN BUT I DO WANT TO SAY THANK YOU TO ALL OF THE WRESTLERS AND THE COACHING STAFF.
