TODAY, WE HAVE REQUESTS ADDRESSING CLOSE SESSION AGENDA ITEMS.

[1.1. PUBLIC COMMENTS – AGENDA ITEMS]

WHILE THE MEETINGS OF THE GOVERNING BOARD ARE NOT PUBLIC MEETINGS, THEY ARE OPEN TO THE PUBLIC.

INDIVIDUAL SPEAKERS WILL BE ALLOWED THREE MINUTES TO ADDRESS THE BOARD ON EACH AGENDA ITEM.

THE BOARD WILL LIMIT THE TOTAL TIME OF PUBLIC INPUT ON EACH ITEM 221 MINUTES AS BYLAW 93.22.2.

MY NAME IS LINDA ATKINS (NAME) AM SPEAKING ON BEHALF OF THE BELLFLOWER TEACHERS ASSOCIATION.

I SPOKE YESTERDAY.

THE TIMER HAS STARTED THIS TIME, SO I WON'T BABBLE AT YOU.

I APOLOGIZE.

I REALLY WANT TO JUST ONE OF THE QUALITIES OF SOMEBODY WE GET.

FOR A LONG TIME NOW, WE'VE NOT REALLY HAD A LOT OF ORGANIZATIONAL CHARTS OR SOMETHING THAT REALLY SAID WHO DO YOU TALK TO? WE HAVE A VERY BRIEF ONE.

THE (INDISCERNIBLE) THAT HAS SOME SPOTS ON IT.

WHEN WE LOOK AT A NEW SUPERINTENDENT, I'D REALLY LIKE TO HAVE SOMEBODY WHO HAS A VERY GOOD UNDERSTANDING OF HOW MUCH PEOPLE CAN DO AND WHAT THE ORGANIZATIONAL CHART NEEDS TO REPRESENT.

GOING DOWN, WE SEEM TO HAVE A LOT OF PEOPLE DOING MULTIPLE JOBS.

OVER TIME, IT'S POSSIBLY BECAUSE WE HAD PEOPLE LEAVE AND THEY TOOK OVER THINGS.

THERE'S KIND OF A BREAKING POINT.

THERE IS A POINT WHERE, I THINK, THAT NO MATTER THE QUALITY, WE'RE JUST TRYING TO GET STUFF OUT.

WE DON'T KNOW WHO TO CALL.

WE DON'T KNOW WHO TO CONTACT.

I WAS SUPPOSED TO CONTACT THE SUPERINTENDENT.

THAT WAS THE AGREEMENT.

BUT THEN, WITH TRACY, THE SITUATION WAS SHE WOULD TELL ME WHEN TO EMAIL THE OTHER PEOPLE AND I WOULD GET AN ANSWER BACK.

I AM NOT ALWAYS GETTING AN ANSWER BACK.

AND SO, IT'S BECOME VERY MUDDLED.

GOING DOWN THE LINE WHEN WE ARE GOING TO SPD, THERE IS ALSO A TENANCY.

I HEARD MY STATE COUNCIL THIS WEEKEND.

THERE IS A LOT OF FORMS BEING GIVEN AND THEY ARE ASKED TO SIGN REGARDING WHAT SERVICES CHILDREN GOT BACK SEVERAL MONTHS, AND EVEN INTO LAST YEAR.

I IMAGINE THE AUDITS ARE TRYING TO COVER THINGS.

BUT MANY OF THEM ARE NEW.

THEY'RE NOT FEELING COMFORTABLE SIGNING (INDISCERNIBLE).

AND IT TAKES HOURS AND HOURS TO FILL OUT.

I CAN GIVE YOU THE SPECIFIC NAME, BUT I CAN EMAIL IT TO YOU.

BUT JUST HAVING THAT CONCEPT OF GREAT PEOPLE DO GREAT THINGS WHEN THEY ARE NOT OVERWHELMED, YOU KNOW? AND AS WE KEEP SUBBING OUT, WE FARM OUT A LOT OF JOBS.

WE USED TO HAVE SPEECH TEACHERS (INDISCERNIBLE) THINGS LIKE THAT.

IT ALSO AFFECTS THE OVERALL FIELD OF OUR DISTRICT.

LIKE I WAS TALKING ABOUT EVEN THE AIDES.

THERE ARE SOME MEASURE OF CONTROL WHEN YOU HAVE FULL-TIME PEOPLE AND THEY'LL BUY INTO THE SAME CONCEPT OF JUST HOW WE WANT TO REPRESENT OURSELVES AS A DISTRICT.

SO THAT WE CAN HIRE MORE PEOPLE.

SO THAT'S THE GENERAL GIST.

I KNOW THAT YOU WORKED VERY HARD YESTERDAY.

I DON'T KNOW EXACTLY WHAT THE PROCESS TODAY IS, BUT I WILL BE HERE.

FIRST, THE SUPERINTENDENT SEARCH READS THAT THE BOARD IS EAGER TO ENGAGE WITH THE COMMUNITY AS WE SEARCH FOR NEW SUPERINTENDENT.

WE WELCOME THE COMMUNITY'S PARTICIPATION AND INPUT, WHICH WILL HELP DETERMINE THE SKILLS, CHARACTERISTICS, TRAITS AND EXPERIENCES PREFERRED FIRST SUCCESSFUL SUPERINTENDENT TO LEAD.

ONE THING I NOTICED IS THAT THE FIRM DESK OF THE FIRM IS HERE TO ASSIST US AND BE A PARTNERSHIP WITH US.

I DON'T SEE THEM HERE LISTENING TO PUBLIC COMMENTS (INDISCERNIBLE).

IT'S A LITTLE DISCERNING.

I NOTICED THAT THE MEETINGS PROBABLY SHOULD HAVE BEEN AT A TIME, NOT 10 A.M.

OR 12 A.M.

OR SATURDAY OR SUNDAY, MAYBE WHERE MORE PEOPLE COULD BE HERE? I GUESS I JUST DON'T UNDERSTAND WHAT THIS BIG RUSH IS TO NOT HAVE MEETINGS WHERE PEOPLE CAN ATTEND.

PEOPLE HAVE CHURCH ON SUNDAY OR THERE WATCHING FOOTBALL, OR THINGS LIKE THAT.

SECONDLY, I JUST AGAIN WANT TO SAY I REALLY BELIEVE OUR LABOR UNION SHOULD HAVE A SEAT AT THE TABLE FOR THIS HIRING PROCESS.

I UNDERSTAND THAT THE BOARD MAKES THE DECISION.

BUT TO ME, YOU WOULD WANT TO GET AS MUCH INPUT AND COLLABORATION AS POSSIBLE TO JUST LISTEN.

AND THEN, YOU GUYS MAKE THE FINAL DECISION.

SO I KNOW IT'S NOT REQUIRED.

I UNDERSTAND THAT.

BUT I FEEL LIKE IT SHOULD BE RECOMMENDED.

I JUST THINK, IN THE FUTURE, WE SHOULD GIVE OUR LABOR UNIONS AND PARTNERS A SEAT AT THE TABLE SO THEY CAN BE A PART OF THIS PROCESS.

WE WANT TO INVOLVE OUR COMMUNITY.

AND I THINK THAT'S THE RIGHT WAY TO DO THINGS.
